The statue of the goddess Athena in front of the Academy of Athens.
A work of the nineteenth century by the sculptor Leonidas Drosis.
A copy of the Athena Parthenos of Phidias.
Έαρ πνέων;
Where are
the times when the beauty of your golden light still shone,
when the
Parthenon was still young and flourishing,
when the
daughter of Olympian Zeus sprang from her father’s head
and he of
the head of Pheidias, breathing spring?
Karasoutsas
(Smyrna 1824 – Athens 1873)
Goddess Athena.
She leaped from the head of Zeus, already adult,
dressed with her armor.
She is, above all, the Goddess of the City,
the protectress of civilized life.
In poetry she is the incarnation of Wisdom, Reason and Purity.
These are just stunning Monika!
ReplyDeleteQuite a goddess Monika, may she still bring her wisdom and reason to the city of Athens and its residents, impressive photos, x

Hugs from me to you, my dear Monika.
Wonderful images to see..
ReplyDeleteThe photography is great, Monika. The night is never kind to photographers, but you have put it in its place.
ReplyDeleteI think Athena would be a good companion to watch one's back, whether he roamed in daylight or in darkness.
The words sent me off into thought and wonder -- wondering why we are confined to living in only the blink of time's eye.
Wow, tolle Bilder!
Sonja
