Can you hold your liquor?

On a short business trip to Northern Greece in the beginning of summer

we had to “kill time” and so we photographed the bottles in a hotel bar.
There are so many different bottles and the beautiful colors where inviting to take a picture!!!

My opinion is that a photographer is all the time looking out for a subject to

immortalize!!!

Σε ένα επαγγελματικό ταξίδι στης αρχές του καλοκαιριού στην Βόρεια Ελλάδα

κάναμε το hobby μας παιχνίδι και φωτογραφίσαμε της πολύχρωμες μπουκάλες

στο μπαρ του ξενοδοχείο..

Στο φως του μπαρ ήταν μια ωραία πρόκληση και η ώρα περνούσε ευχάριστα!!

Ένας φωτογράφος έχει πάντα τα μάτια του ανοιχτά για ένα ωραίο θέμα!!!

Während einer kurzen Geschäftsreise nach Nord Griechenland,

zu Beginn des Sommers,  machten wir abends eine Pause in der

Bar unseres Hotels.

Als wir die bunte Flaschenpracht sahen, griffen wir nach unserer

Kamera.

Ein Hobby, das allmählich zur Leidenschaft wird!!!

Ναυάγιο ... Shipwreck

Κοντά στην πόλη Γύθειο βρίσκεται εδώ και περίπου 15 χρόνια το ναυάγιο ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΣ.

Λένε πως το συγκεκριμένο πλοίο έκανε λαθρεμπόριο τσιγάρων από την Τουρκία προς Ιταλία.

Όταν έπεσε σε καταιγίδα, εγκαταλείφτηκε στην παραλία Σελινίτσα.

Near to Gythio, Mani, in a distance of 5 km on the beach of Selinitsa is found the

shipwreck Dimitrios.

The story says that is was one of the many boats that made smuggling cigarettes from 

Turkey to Italy.

It fell in a storm and was abandoned at the beach of Peloponnese.

Among the impressive buildings at Altis is Hera's Temple, which dates much earlier than her husband's (Zeus)
and served as a perfect setting for Praxiteless's Hermes (found standing among the columns of the Temple).

Ανάμεσα στα εντυπωσιακά κτήρια στο Άλτις είναι ο ναός της Ήρας ο οποίος χρονολογείται πολύ
νωρίτερα απ'ότι του συζύγου της (Δία) και λειτουργούσε ως ενα τέλειο περιβάλλον για τον Έρμη του
Πραξιτέλη  (βρέθηκε ανάμεσα στα ερείπια του ναού).

Hermes of Praxiteles

Hermes and the Infant Dionysos, also known as the Hermes of Praxiteles is an ancient Greek

sculpture discovered in 1877 in the ruins of the Temple of Hera at Olympia.

It is displayed at the Archaeological Museum of Olympia.

It is traditionally attributed to Praxiteles and dated to the 4^th century BC, based on a remark

by the 2^nd century Greek traveler Pausanias.

The German excavations in 1875 were led by Ernst Curtius.

On 8 May 1877, in the Temple of Hera, he uncovered the body (head, torso, legs,  left arm)

of a statue of a young man resting against a tree trunk covered by a mantle.

It took six more separate discoveries to uncover the rest of the statue as it is displayed today.

The group is sculpted from a block of the best quality of Parian marble.

Hermes des Praxiteles  (340 – 330 v.Chr.)

Die Statue ist im Jahre 1877 im Tempel der Hera in Olympia gefunden worden.

Der Bote der Götter hat von Zeus den Auftrag erhalten, den kleinen Dionysos

zu den Nymphen zu bringen, die ihn aufziehen sollen.

Auf seinem Weg hat er eine Rast eingelegt und seinen Mantel über einen

Baumstumpf geworfen.

In der erhobenen rechten Hand hat er wahrscheinlich ein Traubenbündel gehalten,

das Symbol des künftigen Gottes des Weines, nach dem der kindliche Dionysos

denn auch seine Hand ausstreckt.

Der Bildhauer hat dem Gesicht des Gottes olympische Gelassenheit und dem

nackten Körper eine unvergleichliche Harmonie verliehen.

Dabei unterstreicht die Politur der Oberfläche den Reiz und die Zartheit der

Einzelformen im Werk des groβen Bildhauers Praxiteles .

Φθινόπωρο!

Καμιά άλλη εποχή δεν μας θυμίζει τόσο έντονα το πρόσκαιρο των πραγμάτων, όσο το φθινόπωρο.
Ανεξάρτητα από το πόσο μακρυά μπορεί να βρισκόμαστε από τη φύση,
η θέα ενός πεσμένου (ξερού) φύλλου μας υπενθυμίζει ότι τίποτε δεν κρατά για πολύ.
Κάθε τι που γενιέται είναι καταδικασμένο να φθαρεί.
Κι όμως, το φθινόπωρο φωτίζεται από μιά μυστηριώδη λάμψη.
Η οργιαστική ζωντάνια του καλοκαιριού τελείωσε, αφού η γοητεία της ομορφιάς δεν είναι παρά το όνειρο μερικών ημερών!
Το φθινόπωρο είναι μια πρόσκληση για περισυλλογή και καρτερικότητα, αλλά μπορεί και να ελαφρύνει την μελαγχολία μας
δίνοντάς μας λαμπερές εικόνες εκτυφλωτικής λιακάδας και ζεστασιάς. 

 

Autumn.

No other season reminds us as acutely of impermanence as autumn.

No matter how far removed we might be from the natural world,

the sight of a fallen leaf reminds us that nothing lasts for long.

Everything that is born is subject to decay.

And still, the fall is alight with a mysterious glow.

The exuberance of summer is over, for "beauty's charm is but a few days' dream".

Autumn invites reflection and forbearance but can also tickle our somber mood by

presenting us with a dazzling display of sunshine and warmth.

Die Schönheiten dieses Teiles von Griechenland kann man kaum in Worte fassen.

Darum hoffe ich, dass meine Fotografien einiges darüber aussagen!

I cannot put the beauty of this part of Greece into words.

So I hope that my photographs tell something about it!

Η ομορφιά της Μάνης δεν μπορεί να τεθεί σε λέξεις.

Ελπίζω ότι κάτι λίγο μπορούν να σας μεταδίδουν η φωτογραφίες μου!
