Ahnung. presentiment

Der Garten trauert,
kühl sinkt in die Blumen der Regen.
Der Sommer schauert
still seinem Ende entgegen.

Golden tropft Blatt um Blatt
nieder vom hohen Akazienbaum.
Sommer lächelt erstaunt und matt
in den sterbenden Gartentraum.

Lange noch bei den Rosen
bleibt er stehn, sehnt sich nach Ruh,
langsam tut er
die müdgeword'nen Augen zu.

Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962)

The garden is in mourning:
the rain falls cool among the flowers.
Summer shivers quietly
on its way toward its end.

Golden leaf after leaf
falls from the tall acacia.
Summer smiles, astonished, feeble,
in this dying dream of a garden.

For a long while, yet, in the roses
he will linger on, yearning for peace,
and slowly
close his weary eyes.

Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962)

  13. We have a dichotomy: A photograph reflecting beauty and a poem echoing sadness.

The best thing about the seasons is that they are not permanent. Your poet knows the garden will return again in the spring; the question is, will he?

    A thoughtful post, Monika.

  14. Beautiful, Monika. The last flower on the stem is as vibrant as though it were the first. And as Hesse says the flower also will
    "...linger on, yearning for peace,
    and slowly
    close his weary eyes.

    Hugs from Canada
