Strolling in the flea market

A hot Sunday at the Athens flea market.
Wandering aimlessly.
Nothing else to do than taking pictures.
Going with the flow...

an einem heissen sonntag
auf dem athener flohmarkt.
nichts anderes zu tun, als fotografieren.
sich “unter die leute mischen”
nichts weiter...

Schaut so richtig schön in deine Kamera.

  12. with my brother we used to take the train to Monastiraki (not a very long trip-we lived only a few stations away). We sat in coffee shops with our frappes and then walked around the area, along with many tourists and all sorts of people, who became more and more as the day went on.
One could find everything there. Clothes, shoes, jewelry, handbags, furniture, new stuff and used stuff.
In Abyssinia square, every Sunday, the flea market (since 1910). And this was my highlight.
Old Willow pattern plates, tableware, boxes, small round tables, rocking chairs, cutlery, pictures, books. Delightful!
We've never been collectors. We enjoyed just looking at these fine, rare or really old artifacts and sometimes buy a few small things, if we found something we liked. We enjoyed the atmosphere around us. It smelled souvlaki from the various eateries and cinnamon from the bakery at the corner. It smelled of jasmine and lemons from neighborhood's pots, usually located next to entrances or on windowsills.
Aroma that mingled with the mild mildew odor and dust, from "other people's trash" ( as we call used objects here in Norway...) .
There were colors, tourists with sandals and socks, in that heat! and a kind of confidence that this chaotic context managed, in a strange way, to provide one.

Thank you my friend : )

  27. Hallo Monika,
Welcome and enjoy. Einen Espresso oder einen griechischen Mokka vielleicht...?
    Gruß aus dem frühherbstlichen Deutschland,
    Uwe.
