The cicada... Ο τζίτζικας..

Since I came to Greece, very young then, these are the first impressions I will remember until I die:

The sun and the bright light.
The scent of flowers.
Noisy streets.
Friendly people.
Old ladies in full make-up.
Men in their pajamas walking in crowdy streets
(in front of hospitals).
Very tall buildings.
The clear sea.
The beautiful islands.
And that special singing during hot summer days:
The cicada.... Ο τζίτζικας..
His singing is so loud and full of joy!!
Tsi tsi tsi tsi
I am going to miss you little fellow!!

Καί τά τζιτζίκια τά τζιτζίκια μέσ' στ'αυτιά τών δέντρων.

  2. Nice post, but... "Very tall buildings"???

Where did you get that from? Every time I return to Athens I think how short the buildings are. The opposite. It may be because I live in Chicago. Everything is a matter of perspective I guess.

  5. Monika,

Yes, the cicada is a magnificent beast if there ever was one! The summer will be back soon enough, but I can do without it until then. Your country sounds wonderful...especially the clear sea!

I hope your week has gone well.

    Take care,
    Brian

  20. Rachelako,
ich habe mich immer gefragt, was aus diesen
Insekten wird, wenn der Sommer zu Ende geht.
Die Weibchen legen bis zu 600 Eier in den
Baeumen. So, wenn die Hitze ungf. im August
wieder beginnt, schluepfen sie aus und beginnen
    ihren froehlichen Gesang.
    Gruess dich herzlich,
    Monika
